Eat at Home Tonight {Product Review}

Eat at Home Tonight might just be the ticket to making meal planning & prep easier!  This cookbook contains 101 “Simple Busy-Family Recipes…” which is what appealed to me the most!  The very first recipe section of the cookbook is titled “I Only Have 15 Minutes Tonight”!  It is my favorite chapter and one I turn to every time I am looking for cooking inspiration.

Frankly, I have lost my cooking mojo.  I don’t want to cook very often – IF at all these days.  It has been discouraging for me and frustrating for my family.  I have no excuse like previous summers (when we did NOT have air-conditioning) and I find myself dragging my feet to think about meal planning, let alone prepping for meals.

I hoped that reading through this cookbook would give me the inspiration to try something new.  Honestly, every time I open this little book, I flip through the cookbook looking at the gorgeous pictures and find myself turning to the same pages for recipes to try.  It is beautifully done, definitely geared towards busy families and includes recipes that are both simple and appealing.

Simple recipes like:

  • White Garlic Chicken Flatbread
  • Memphis-Style BBQ Chicken Tacos with Coleslaw
  • Tacos al Pastor
  • Skillet Swiss Frittata with Spinach & Tomatoes, and
  • Mexican Meat Loaf

I made the Skillet Swiss Frittata with Spinach & Tomatoes (eggs from our backyard chickens and fresh tomatoes from my in-law’s) and my husband RAVED about it!  Sometimes it’s hard to keep eggs on the dinner menu, but this recipe would satisfy just about everyone on my family!!!

One of the most interesting sections (which I have yet to dig into making) is the chapter “I Want to Cook For Tonight and Tomorrow” which includes recipes to cook the main dish for one night, with a recipe for leftovers the following night!  I am drawn to “Garlicky Pulled Pork” which can be used for “Pulled Pork Cuban Sliders” followed by “I’ll do it Tamale”!  Looks and sounds SO delicious!  I haven’t done this yet, but when I can get boneless pork roast on sale, I am making it!

To top this off – for those of you who might be VERY organized – there is a “I Want to Cook for the Whole Week Tonight” section which includes 2 weeks worth of 6-in-1 Menu Plans with shopping lists!  (Maybe when I get my mojo back, I’ll dare attempt this!)  Basically, this cookbook gives me NO excuse not to cook a delicious meal for my family at home.  Blessing or curse???

Eat at Home Tonight retails for $22.00 but right now on Amazon, it is on sale for $14.58 (as of the time of writing this post)!

I was given a copy of the newly-released cookbook, Eat at Home Tonight, by Tiffany King in exchange for my honest review.  I received an advanced reader copy, which includes b&w pictures – which always makes a cookbook more useful in my opinion.  FYI – The published edition contains full-color pics.  I am using my Amazon affiliate links throughout this post.  If you should purchase this cookbook via these links, I earn a small commission for the referral – but it doesn’t cost you anything extra at all!!!

Dress Well at Any Size

I have been a “big girl” for a few decades and finding nice clothes that are flattering, comfortable, and that don’t “age” me is a primary challenge.  Whether I want to stay casual at home, look appropriate for work, or dress up for dates with my hubby – I want to dress well at any size!

I hate shopping for these reasons.  Fortunately, I have been blessed with several hand-me-downs or pass-along clothes from people who love me and have not had to shop too often.  I find that shopping for clothes can be uncomfortable, disappointing and very frustrating.  And I get hot & sweaty.  (anybody else?)  It’s not worth my time to try on 5 things and not have any fit well or flatter me.

Enter Chicwe

I am a BIG fan of online shopping – have been for many years.  It is both convenient and time-saving, but when it comes to clothes, it can be risky.  NOT trying on clothes can be almost as bad as trying on those 5 things that don’t work, right?  What looks good on the screen can be completely different at home – in color, in fit, in so many ways.

At Chicwe, ( www.Chicwe.com) you will find a wide variety of sophisticated plus styles (Size 14+) –  tops, bottoms, jackets – as well as dresses and accessories.  I am always looking for more tops that are both classy and fun – I don’t mind wearing bright colors – and really like the selection I found.  This is a site I have bookmarked for future shopping!

I got a top that is colorful, comfortable and flattering. I wore it to work and really loved the way it fit and felt throughout the day.  It is made of a soft knit material, with a chiffony-hem of bright blue!  I love wearing blues and the colors in this top are just gorgeous!  What do you think???

Right out of the package

Even though it was a SCORCHING 93 degrees yesterday (where did Fall go!?!) I was very comfortable in this top and glad I had it to wear.  I happen to own some bright blue cropped pants that I matched to it and was perfect for work!

When You Can Start Your Day the Night Before

Maybe at the end of the day you collapse into your bed, tired from the tasks you performed and managing your home, work, and family.  Maybe two cups of coffee in the morning help you get going (like they do me), but you find that you run out of steam before the end of the day and can’t seem to finish everything you started.  Maybe you just can’t wait for the kids’ bedtime so you can have a few minutes to breathe.  Or think.  Or wash dishes.  Or visit with your husband.  I can totally relate!

One of my goals for 2017 was to do some online courses that helped me improve the way I manage my home – but not just in the organizational aspect!  I wanted to find things that would help me build some good habits and work out some bad ones that were keeping me in a a continuous state of confusion.  I found something that I want to share with you that is helping me turn my days around because my days are starting the night before!

I have always tried to find THE perfect planning system to help me manage everything.  Being the Messie I am, and the mom of VERY active kids with lots of activities and appointments – I definitely need help.  I can have the best set of pens, all the right planner pages and my phone calendar – but I needed help putting it all together in a system that Helps Me Succeed as a Mom!

FIRST OF ALL – Make Over Your Evenings is a simple 14-day course that comes with short videos, along with daily projects and worksheets to help you pinpoint and narrow your focus and priorities (This was my BIG AHA for this course!) so you can find more success in navigating through your busy days.

SECOND OF ALL – it comes from a source whom I trust.  I have found such great advice and direction from following Money Saving Mom and using her printables and courses.  So I am very comfortable in recommending her to you!

I am absolutely an affiliate of Make Over Your Evenings because it has been very helpful to me and is an affordable investment for obtaining a level of sanity in my insane life.  (This means if you click the links in this post or sidebar and purchase the MOYE course, I will receive a commission for referring you.  And I THANK YOU if you do!)

The great thing about this course is you can go through it once.  Or twice.  Or every year, for that matter.  As my kids are growing and life is changing, I find that walking through it every year really gives me a better focus when I need it.  I have recently re-started this course to help me establish some calm in my day and build a plan for helping my family thrive.  Having a plan for my day lets me stay on track, helps me keep my head in the game, and keeps my anxiety at bay.   It helps me handle overwhelm I feel from living a very full life.  And when I help my day start the night before, it makes me a much better mom!

Music Review: The Word of God – Seeds Family Worship

Album Name:  The Word of God

by Seeds Family Worship

This is the 2nd Seeds Family Worship album I have had the opportunity to listen to and offer my opinion for. I was sent this CD for the specific purpose of providing a review

Can I just tell you that I LOVE hearing the Word of God put to music? I don’t just mean this specific album, but when words of Scripture are put to music, somehow they sink into my heart, soul, mind, and memory in a deeper, more meaningful way.  And because it is set to music, my kids pick up these verses of Scripture and sing right along with these songs. SCORE!!!

The Word of God provides 12 songs and my favorite has to be the title track “The Word of God.” I’m sitting here humming it to myself as I type this. I played this song earlier this morning, and heard my daughters (who have really only heard this CD twice so far) already singing the words of Scripture right along.

The previous CD I reviewed, Seeds of Faith 2, is more familiar to me because I have had it for years, it’s the one I prefer of the 2. The Word of God definitely has a more modern style of music and rhythm, but considering how quickly my kids have picked up the lyrics, I have to say that this CD is definitely a KEEPER!  It is really wonderful to have music – Scripture – pouring into my home in this way, and I love memorizing Scriptures in this new way.

If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can add some of the songs to your Amazon Prime music library for free!  Just Click Here!

If you enjoy listening to contemporary Christian music, I can absolutely recommend this album.  I have used my Amazon affiliate links in this post (so if you purchase via these links, I will receive a commission for the referral) but would recommend you check this album out any way you can!

My Favorite BB Cream {Product Review}

I am not a big fan of foundation.  Most foundations end up feeling cakey on my skin, or contribute to break-outs, OR actually draw attention to the flaws I attempt to minimize.

Enter BB Cream.

BB Creams are a BIG craze right now and most cosmetic lines are coming out with their own version.  “BB” typically stands for “Beauty Balm” and indicates that the product is supposed to offer more than just a make-up-cosmetic use.  Each BB Cream offers it’s own benefits, but usually includes moisturization, SPF, smoothing, brightening, concealing, and added benefits like antioxidants. (this all started when I received a free sample of Pixi Highlighting Cream, which is like a BB cream, and fell in love with it.  Only to discover that it was being discontinued when I wanted to get more. sigh.)

Anyway.

Here’s what you should know about me:  I am 44 years old.  I have combination skin, oily in the T-zone/dry on the cheeks.  More oily in summer, more dry in winter.   I use an anti-wrinkle cream almost every morning, and occasionally use an eye serum to help with extra dryness and more noticeable fine lines.  I have a lot of lines around my eyes, the start of crow’s feet, and large pores with rough spots and occasional ruddiness just around my nose.

I bought CoverGirl Smoothers SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer, Light To Medium 810, 1.35 Ounce Package  because of all of the generally available cosmetics, Cover Girl seems to be my preference.  I found this BB Cream to be satisfactory.  It went on easier than foundation, blended perfectly into my skin without leaving a super heavy feel, and it did seem to soften my skin and smooth some very fine lines.  However, I was conscious of it being on my face, and found that if I wiped my face throughout the day, it would rub off.  So it was ONLY satisfactory.  And if I didn’t wash my face at bedtime, I inevitably had a breakout.  BB Creams are kinda supposed to help prevent breakouts, so that was disappointing for me.

I saw the NEW Rimmel London BB Cream – Medium and thought I’d give it a try.  It was not expensive, and I was surprised by the silky texture.  I bought the Medium shade and it did not leave any marks or streaks.  However, it set on my face more like a foundation as the day went on.  It did not easily run or wear off, nor did it prevent shine, reduce my pore size, or even out my tone.  I did not notice any longer lasting benefits from using this and quickly threw it into my makeup bag.

When I started shopping at CVS, because of a combination of coupons, store sales, and member rewards, I was able to purchase a Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Cream Light Medium — 1.2 fl oz  for less than $2.00!  That is the primary reason I selected this BB cream.  Where I live (Ohio), it is typically priced more than $15.  It is a larger tube than the other two I previously purchased.  And when it came out of the tube, I was shocked at how SMOOTHLY it went onto my skin!  It felt like moisturizer going on.  The shade happened to match perfectly, and it did not feel greasy or oily, it just glided onto my skin and smoothed the surface.  The ruddiness faded out.  The fine lines began to melt away.  And if I happened not to wash it off my face at bedtime, I woke up feeling more like my skin was simply moisturized, rather than greased over.  I have not had a breakout due to this product, and it definitely has improved my skin’s texture with more use.  I like that.  It gives me a sort of airbrushed glow compared to the other two products, or compared to not wearing anything at all – and I like that, too.

If you don’t like wearing foundation, but like to treat your skin to something nice, I would really recommend the Physicians Formula version of BB Cream.  If you are younger or have different type skin you may find different results, but I think BB Creams are worth giving a try.

I was not asked to offer my opinion on these products, and am not being compensated either in product or payment.  I DID include my amazon affiliate links so if you are curious you can read more about each product online.  If you choose to purchase through those links, I will receive a small commission and treat myself to some coffee!  I’m just sharing my experience with 3 specific BB Creams that I have purchased on my own.
